Advantages and disadvantages of IP cameras
By lazko
In
this hubpage
I will try
to explain
you the advantages and disadvantages of IP cameras. Also i will share some other facts related with cameras.
Advantages
•
Two-way
audio network cable that allows the user to communicate with what
appears on
the monitors. For example
the
station
staff, customer support, warning for
infringement.
• The high image resolution IP cameras have very
good resolution starting from the small 640x480 pixels and can
provide very high - megapixel resolution and quality of HDTV image at
30 frames per second.
• Flexibility: IP cameras can be moved
anywhere in the IP network (including wireless).
• Encryption
and authentication: IP security cameras offer the transmission of
data through encryption and authentication methods such as WEP, WPA,
WPA2, TKIP, AES.
• Remote Access: cameras can be monitored in
real time from any computer anywhere in the world, and from
many
mobile devices including iPhone, laptops, and Windows Live
Messenger.
• IP cameras are also able to work only with the
wireless network. Initial configuration must be done through the
router, then the camera can be used for wireless networking. These
cameras are used for navigational purposes in the security
business.
• PoE (Power over ethernet) - powering the Internet.
Modern IP cameras can operate without additional power. They can work
with PoE-protocol, which feeds them through the Internet cable.
Disadvantages
•
Higher
initial price for the camera, except when using the cheaper
cameras.
• Lack of standards. Various IP cameras can encode the
video differently or use different programming interface, which
requires a combination of camera recorder.
• High requirements
for network traffic: a simple IP video surveillance camera with a
resolution of 640x480 pixels and 10 frames per second (10 frame / s)
in MJPEG mode requires about 3 Mbit / s.
• Technical barrier.
Installation requires an IP camera network settings, IP address,
DDNS, the router, for all that you should hire a special technician
who is familiar with LAN or CCTV technology.
• The system
becomes open to hackers via the Internet as they can cause you major
problems (false bomb threats, called in hoaxers while watching the
cameras.) Criminals can penetrate into the CCTV system, thereby
facilitating criminal acts.
How a CCTV camera can damaged?
Most
CCTV cameras are in open places and thus their work can be impeded
easily. In the lower rows I
will
list the several methods on how to protect your CCTV camera.
Some
people deliberately destroyed the cameras, but Chicago police have
found a solution to this as they put a bullet resistant
housing. When spraying the lens of the camera image begins to
appear blurred, and thus we
can only
see shadows.
Lasers blind cameras or can even destroy them.
However, since most lasers are monochromatic, the color filter of the
camera can reduce the effect of laser filters lach. Although
the laser may still spoil the image quality and can reduce the
sensitivity of the camera. The use of infrared lasers or red, blue,
green and UV lasers can make filter chamber completely black which
makes it totally useless.
For wireless cameras the signal can
be completely drowned out if someone
start to emit a signal with
the
same frequency as that of the camera.
